Upon graduating, he began his professional career at independent Swedish carrier Tele2, charged with expanding its business footprint across Europe.
He held various business development roles at European ISP get2net and then became the CEO of the everyday.com portal.
In 2000, Zennstrom and Janus Friis launched Kazaa, a peer-to-peer file sharing application that quickly became the most downloaded Internet software in 2003, and the subject of intense legal battles ranging from being sued by the entertainment industry for copyright violations to another peer-to-peer company that claims it had first purchase rights to the underlying FastTrack technology.
Selling Kazaa, Zennstrom and Friis co-founded Skype in 2002.
Launched in August 2003, the Skype software quickly proved to be both disruptive and popular.
